This typical Agéen town house is situated just a hop, skip and a jump away from the celebrated champagne vineyards with their breath-taking views over the valley to the canal and River Marne.

Dating from 1860 the interiors have just been restored.

Two years of restoration work (still ongoing - you have been warned!),  to return the house back to the delightful residence of 1860 (but this time with more mod cons).

Chambres d'hôtes

There are three double rooms (one with two single beds), and each with their own bathroom.

Transport and things to see and do in Ay and the surrounding area.

Aÿ has been classified as a UNESCO world heritage site, as it is the birthplace of Champagne.   Its architecture is also listed as most of the houses are made from wattle and daub.  On one side of Aÿ is the River Marne and the canal, and on the other, the vineyards rise steeply up above the town.  The many Champagne makers include such names as Bollinger, Ayala, Deutz, Moet et Chandon, and many, many more - including a host of small producers who are always ready to welcome you!

Restaurants in Aÿ.

Aÿ has a couple of local restaurants and one we particularly recommend.  If you wish to dine there during your stay we strongly advise you to book the restaurant at the same time as booking the B&B!

Epernay

Epernay is 2 klms away, and is considered the "capital" of Champagne.  The spectacular Avenue de Champagne is a must for any visit - even if you just window shop  - the architecture is stunning and the "grandes marques" of the Champagne region are here.

Many of the houses do cellar tours which can be booked in advance.

Epernay has a lot of restaurants too, which we also advise booking in advance (which we would be happy to do for you!).

Below are links to the Epernay and Hautvillers Tourist Offices for greater detail of things to do and see all over the region:

Rheims

Rheims (or Reims!) is 35 klms away and is also known as the Coronation City.  33 French kings have been crowned there starting with Clovis in 498. Joan of Arc also famously liberated the cathedral from the English which allowed Charles VII of France to be crowned King.

Fantastic shopping city with lots of cafés, shops, restaurants, theatres and more champagne houses (Veuve Cliquot, Ruinart, Taittinger, Pommery to name but a few.)  If you decide to drive you can also visit many more small producers on the way.

in Rheims (also in Vallée de la Marne).

The train from Aÿ goes to Epernay, Rheims and Paris.

Paris

Fancy a day trip to Paris?

Why not hop on the train in Aÿ and go to Paris for the day!  (Be warned last train home from the Gare de l'Est is at 7.30pm).  The journey takes about 1h 30.
